Speech of Prof. DANG Mau Chien in the 12th Anniversary celebration ceremony of LNT and Inauguration Ceremony of Building for Fuel Cell Lab.
Dear Prof. Huynh Thanh Dat, Vice-President of VNUHCM,
Dear Prof. Tran Chi Dao, Former Vice Minister of Ministry of Training and Education, Former President of VNUHCM,
Dear Prof. Nguyen Tan Phat, Former Vice Minister of Ministry of Training and Education, Former President of VNUHCM,
Dear Prof. Acad. Nguyen Van Hieu, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), Honorary Chairman of LNT,
Dear Mr. Toshifumi SAKAI, Director of JICA Liaison Office in Ho Chi Minh City,
Dear Experts from CEA/ LETI – MINATEC (France), Professors of Kyushu University (Japan), Soonchunhyang University (Korea),
Dear leaders who represent for Institutions from inside and outside VNU-HCM, companies and reporters,
Dear leaders of Office and Funtional Departments of VNUHCM,
Dear leaders of Departments and Broads of the Provinces, Leaders of LNT’s partners company and reporters,
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
Laboratory for Nanotechnology (LNT) is a member of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) which was officially established in September 2004. In the first stage, LNT was financed by Higher Education Project of World Bank with the budget of 4 millions USD. The launch of LNT with a function as a common laboratory in VNUHCM – is marked as the first step for developing Micro-Nano technology within VNUHCM and in the southern provinces of Vietnam.
In the beginning, LNT used 300m2 at ITP – VNUHCM for building the design and simulation room, seminar room, classroom, offices for staffs, etc. From 2004 to 2006, LNT focused primarily on constructing the Building for Laboratory of Nanotechnology with a total area of 740 m2, including 200 m2 of clean room with an international standard (class 100,000-1,000). Besides, LNT purchased laboratory equipment under international competitive bidding process of the World Bank and training staffs for receiving and operating the equipment. Although LNT had many difficulties in the initial stage, with about 20 staffs, LNT also formed some research groups and carried out several key research projects of VNUHCM with collaboration of foreign experts and members of VNUHCM. Experiencing 2 years with construction and manpower training, in December 2006, LNT officially inaugurated the Building of Laboratory for Nanotechnology with modern and synchronous equipment. This marked the start of development milestone of LNT.
In the past 12 years, LNT has developed according to the era trend, developed scientific research together with training and education, widened international collaboration. In 2014, LNT was chosen by Kyushu University (Japan) as a stratagic partner to perform the SATREPS project “Sustainable development of rural area by effective utilization of bio-wastes with highly efficient fuel cell technology”. This is 01 of 02 Technical Cooperation projects in 2014 for VN using non-refundable ODA from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). For this project, LNT built 1 Fuel Cell Laboratory to receive equipment funded by JICA and 1 Laboratory at demonstration site at Hoang Vu Company in Binh Dai, Ben Tre province. Currently construction of these 2 Laboratories has been finished. The building for Fuel Cell Laboratory will be inaugurated today, also the 12th years anniversary of LNT.
I would like to summarize the achievements that LNT has gained in the past 12 years (from 2004 to 2016)
1. Facilities - Equipment
LNT is well-equipped with modern facilities, which are equivalent to the facilities of other laboratories in advanced countries in the region and around the world. During its operation, LNT has complemented many instruments via the Intensive Investment Project of the Ministry of Planning and Investment from 2007 to 2011, equipment was purchased by the funding of the projects and from private sources of LNT. Currently, facilities of LNT worth more than 150 billion VNĐ.
Maintenance of all facilities has been performed periodically with the support of our partners in France (MINATEC, 40-30 Company). Besides that, LNT also frequently organizes short training courses for technical staffs with the guidance of foreign experts.
